Garth Brooks Cancelled, The Nation Will Suffer

Heads up, this is a personal opinion. This is a personal opinion of a Garth Brooks fan. Most importantly this is a personal opinion of a ticket holding Garth Brooks fan who is right now trying to control a blinding temper. Anyone who follows me on Twitter may have seen my analogy of this situation as resembling a child being given thousands of free sweets, but refusing them because his mother tells him he has to bin the wrappers himself. Sadly, I feel this analogy is completely accurate to the shambolic handling of the Garth Brooks debacle, which has now ended in the definite cancellation of the five gigs in Croke Park. Live In Concert – Luka Bloom, The Helix, 2005

I’ll admit I felt like a bit of an outsider at this gig. Luka Bloom was filming a live DVD in The Space at The Helix, an intimate venue for a mere 100 lucky attendees. Why was I feeling outcast? Well, it was my first time seeing him live in full. I had seen him play support to his brother, Christy Moore, in the Kaedeen in Newbridge but this was the first time I was seeing him in full. And here I was surrounded by his most enthusiastic fans!

Live In Concert – Metallica, RDS, 2003

Who saw this one coming? Yes, indeed I was a metal head. and when it comes to Metallica, I still am, having not missed a single gig they’ve played in Ireland since this one. It was my first time out on my own to a gig, first ticket I’d saved and saved for, first time making that conscious decision to go and see an artist I truly admired the shit out of. And it didn’t disappoint one bit.

Live In Concert – Tom Waits, The Ratcellar, 2008

August 1st, 2008 was the day I went to a gig I thought I never would. The elusive Tom Waits was out on tour, and he was spending 3 nights in Dublin. With a marquee erected in Phoenix Park, the fabled Ratcellar, he would bring his unique carnival madness to Dublin’s fair city for one weekend only. Tom Waits – Artist In Focus

Alongside Live In Concert, I’m Talkin’ Here is going to play host to some musings on my favourite artists. No, it won’t be weekly (I’m only human) but I’ll try my best for some regularity. First up is the man who has presented the most divided opinions amongst my peers, that man is of course Tom Waits.

More Than Just A Melody

I’ve always loved music. Listening, singing, playing; it’s always been there. We listen to music for a multitude of reasons. To sing, to dance, to pick us up and even sometimes to bring us down. It stirs emotion, to those who allow it, above and beyond things we’ve ever previously experienced.

Welcome To I’m Talkin’ Here

Welcome to I’m Talkin’ Here. After many failed attempts at maintaining a consistent level of blogging, I’ve decided the best approach is to break out of niches and genres. Come to this site to read about anything. I’ll be talkin about movies, music, gripes, bug bares, rugby, Ireland, whatever. If I think it’s interesting, it’ll be here and hopefully you will to.

Discretion advised, this is my personal blog. I write for other publications and this blog is by no means affiliated with any of them.

Phew, now that’s out of the way, let’s get Talkin.
