Reviewing a Marvel film can be tough at the best of times. They’re blockbuster superhero flicks and any criticism aimed at their lack of substance or emotional depth etc can be seen as just taking them too seriously. This applies doubly to the Guardians Of The Galaxy series. The first film was touted as potentially being Marvel’s first legitimate flop, and instead went on to briefly hold the mantle of highest grossing release the studio had at that time. We’ve been here before though, in fact Marvel has been here several times; when the first film releases and becomes such a smash hit that the anticipation for the sequel reaches far beyond fever pitch, and preparation for disappointment sets in. So how does GOTG 2 fair in that arena?
I doubt we’ll ever find ourselves saying it’s been a bad year for Marvel Studios but with Avengers – Age Of Ultron coming in to less than stellar reviews (including from yours truly) and then Jurassic World absolutely dominating the box office and breaking all records, it’s safe to say that 2015 won’t be seen as a roaring success. Pity then that Ant-Man seems to have flown quite far below many radars. It’s not perfect but it certainly sits in the upper echelon of the studio’s output. Continue reading Ant-Man Review

So, am I allowed not like this film? I really wanted to like it, I really did. As far as the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes I’m certainly a fan, even the lesser entries like Thor – The Dark World didn’t really bother me all that much. With Age Of Ultron however it’s not so much that it’s bad rather that it just doesn’t seem to fit in with anything that has come before it, doubly strange considering the first Avengers film set so many of the tropes and benchmarks in place.
In earlier news this week we saw…nobody…cares. That’s right folks, Avengers : Age Of Ultron is out this weekend and so everything else is nothing and nothing is more important. But I’m Talkin’ Here made sure to pick out those sneaky bits of the week, the bits you may have missed (minus a Flicks On Flix this week which will not happen again!). Game Of Thrones S05E02 – The House Of Black And White
Some notable returns this week in GOT in the shape of Drogon (seriously Dany, look after your pets) and Arya!! Finally one of the shows best characters is getting some screen time. Admittedly it still wasn’t a whole lot much of anything but Arya’s is the story most seem to be able to connect with and everytime Maisie Williams is on screen the show gets a little more, human. As mentioned Drogon made a return in the closing moment of this week’s episode and he’s still the rebellious teen we last saw him as. That Dany is fated to die at the talons of him or either one of her other two dragons seems more and more inevitable but her struggle with “motherhood” has and still is being portrayed very convincingly.
