Every so often you find yourself a film that just fascinates you. Maybe it’s a big budget spectacle where you simply cannot believe what you see is happening, maybe it’s a hard hitting drama where you are moved to tears by the performances. Or maybe it’s Cube. Continue reading Flicks On Flix – Cube
Few actors cause such excessive eye rolling as Rob Schneider. I’ll begin by saying that I don’t plan to defend the man’s many career missteps at all in this piece but I will implore and hopefully convince you to give this, his directorial debut, a shot and I’m confident you’ll thank me later. Now this, this is well and truly an unfairly forgotten film. Not exactly a box office smash on release, Go is a fantastically well put together title from screenwriter John August and director Doug Liman. That’s right, remember him? Doug Liman who can’t decide if he wants to be the director of excellent action fare like Edge Of Tomorrow or The Bourne Identity or mindless drivel like Jumper or Mr & Mrs Smith. Before all of that though he exploded on the scene with Swingers and to me, peaked with this gem. Continue reading Flicks On Flix – Go
Ok so maybe this isn’t one of those “best films you’ve never seen” types but for the purpose of this piece I’ve not once seen it recommended on my Netflix home screen so that’s enough. Ronin is a relic of days gone by, pre-excessive CGI, when action flicks rested their success heavily on some script smarts and the ensemble cast such as what you see here. For me there were several but I would think The Edge was one of the few I managed to run more than one copy of ragged. I can’t count how many times I rented it when a trip to Xtra Vision for a new release came up fruitless and when we finally managed to catch it on TV and record it the already worn tape it was recorded on began a journey that it would do well to survive. I guess what I’m trying to say is, The Edge is an absolutely fantastic watch that you’ll want to see again.
Browsing through Netflix in more detail than I ever have before last week it struck me how many films are there but could so easily be overlooked. Obviously most will look for recent content on the site and consider the convenience their money’s worth, but there’s a treasure trove of content on their that won’t be pushed on your recommendations and you probably won’t find it without searching. So here on I’m Talkin’ Here you’ll find the best of Netflix that you didn’t even know was there, starting today with 2011’s neat action flick, Blitz.
