We’ve grown accustomed to warm up games being an open playing field for new players and combinations, but 14 changes and seemingly no dip in quality across the 23? Unprecedented. Continue reading World Cup 2015 – All Change For Scotland Clash

Pro 12 – Leinster Look At One Last Chance

image

Three weeks remain in the Pro 12 regular season and for the first time this decade Leinster are looking at a slim chance of Top 4 qualification. Munster and Ulster sit relatively comfortably with Munster travelling to Edinburgh and Ulster heading West to Connacht but Leinster, en route to face the Dragons on Sunday, are staring down a real possibility of not making the league knock outs whilst also trying to figure out Toulon before their European Semi Final. A lot to ask, no question. Continue reading Pro 12 – Leinster Look At One Last Chance

European Rugby – Leinster Too Good For Bath… Just

Leinster+Rugby+v+Bath+Rugby+European+Rugby+Ae76vmD3nTblHistory has a funny way of repeating itself and never more so than in rugby. Once more Leinster find themselves facing elimination from the European platform at the hands of Toulon and once again they look likely to be at least in part architects of their own demise. Can anyone else remember the last time only one Irish team managed to make the European knock outs? Eleven years ago, back when Ulster still couldn’t find a way out and Leinster lost out to Stade Francais and Munster were the sole hope in the Quarter Finals. Is it a reflection on the Irish club game that only Leinster have progressed or is it the new format living up to its name and providing a greater challenge to the Celts? Hard to say in this inaugural year but the fact is there to see that only one province from the back to back Six Nations champion country is present this weekend. Pity. Six Nations 2015 – England Seek Revenge

WarburtonRobshaw15SB800_rdax_60

Of course Irish fans want one team only to run in as title contenders when the Six Nations kicks off, but there can be up to four potential victors in a given year. Even Italy, when they started in 2013 with that famous win over France, looked hotter than ever. England are without doubt second favourites and Wales, well they’re just always a threat in this tournament year on year. Scotland have that Vern Cotter fella in charge, maybe you’ve heard of him. Yes it’s not plain sailing for Ireland by any means. Continue reading Six Nations 2015 – England Seek Revenge

2014 Rugby Year In Review – Spring Launches A New Era

The Ireland team celebrate winning the RBS 6 Nations Championship in the dressing room 15/3/2014Dual blogged on Irish News Review

We’ve been a little light on rugby coverage here – let me assure you it was due to an exceptionally hectic Christmas and nothing to do with a Leinster man avoiding writing negatively about the struggling province – but now comes that unmissable time of the year. A time for nostalgia and teary eyes reminiscence. Yes, it’s time for a lookback on the rugby year that was 2014, a long overdue positive one for Irish fans.
